ZAE Bayern: ZAE – More than a research institution

The Bavarian Center for Applied Energy Research (ZAE Bayern) was founded in 1991 with the aim to promote research, education and further education as well as consultancy, information and documentation in all areas that are of significance for energy technology. Since its establishment, ZAE has consistently developed its range of competencies and today provides metrological services and seminars in addition to research, development and consultancy services.

The core competence areas of ZAE include energy efficiency, energy storage as well as renewable energies. In these areas, ZAE focusses on thermal and electrochemical energy storage, energy-efficient buildings and urban districts, energy-efficient processes, photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, geothermal energy, metrology, nanomaterials, smart grids and energy systems.

With its locations in Würzburg, Erlangen, Nuremberg, Garching and Hof, ZAE is present throughout Bavaria. Under the motto “excellent energy research – excellent implementation“ it offers complete innovation packages (from basic research to demonstrators and prototypes) to customers in Germany and abroad.
