The business and scientific location around the state capital of Dresden is prominent nationwide as regards the concentration of research institutions of the Fraunhofer and Max Planck societies. An environment in which also leading organizations are resident, which develop future technological innovations in numerous fields and in doing so, demonstrate competitiveness on a daily basis. Besides, the innovative strength also promoted by the network initiatives of enterprises and scientific facilitys in the Dresden region affects the whole land and the location of Germany in a fertile way. This is supported by the state government: Since 1991, we have invested more than 1.3 billion euros as subsidies for operational technology projects. The region demonstrates: Science and technology are the driving forces for progress. We can therefore be proud that, due to settlement policies targeting high-tech organizations, both the large cities as the rural region are well-established. In order for this to persist, the state government, in addition to the upgrading of the educational sector, places a particular focus on its small-firm business policies in research and development in the small and medium-sized business sector, since precisely they are the essential cornerstones for growth and employment.
