Staatliches Hofbräuhaus in München: Hofbräuhaus – 425 years of living history

No matter where you are in the world, almost everyone has heard of the Hofbräuhaus in Munich. Unfortunately, only very few people know that there is a brew­ery in Munich-Riem where the good Hof­bräu(haus) beer is brewed.

It has been 425 years since Duke Wilhelm V. founded the brewery in order to prevent national bankruptcy. Originally established to provide the duke’s court with good beer, the public Hofbräuhaus in Munich sells today an impressive assortment of traditional beers nationally and internationally, primarily in the gas­tronomy and beverage industry. The reason behind the very high degree of international prominence is not only due to its main base in Munich, which almost two million people visit from all over the world every year, but also because of the franchise strategy: there are currently seven Hofbräu houses on three continents. More than half of the amount of beer is sold outside of Germany, and the beers of one of the smallest breweries in Munich can be found in more than 30 countries around the world.

The HB crown trademark represents the Munich beer culture and lifestyle on an international scale and no other public drinking house is as well known worldwide as the Hofbräuhaus at the Platzl.
