The Schweißtechnische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt Halle (Welding Training and Research Institute Halle, or SLV Halle) has been in existence for almost 80 years. While its activities initially focused mainly on training welders, the institute has increasingly become an innovative service provider over the last few decades. These services include the practical and theoretical training – including a large number of conferences, publicly subsidized and industrial research, materials and component testing, company certification and the monitoring of welding-based production. The main sectors involved here are steel construction, construction of rail vehicles, pipeline construction and plant and mechanical engineering. The professional competence of the SLV Halle ranges from welding technology and thermal cutting through to metallurgy, testing technology, automation and the development of welding software. In these fields, the institute has established contacts over a long period with universities and other institutes of higher education, various national and international professional bodies and a large number of connections with other European countries. The SLV’s clients benefit in no small way from a structured and responsive company structure, the latest technology and an interdisciplinary range of services.
