The Saxony State Foundation for Nature and Environment (LaNU) was established in 1998 and is an independent foundation under public law. It pursues exclusively non-profit objectives for the protection of nature and the environment in Saxony. The foundation performs operative and funding activities. The statutory function of the foundation includes the administration of the Saxony Conservation Fund as an independent entity.
The Conservation Fund supports nature protection and landscape preservation activities. These include projects such as water restoration and renaturation, improving protected biotopes and landscapes, protecting endangered species, and renovating, maintaining and preserving natural monuments.
The foundation’s own academy supports and fosters training and further education for nature protection and landscape preservation as well as environmental education in Saxony. Along with scientific conferences and events for multipliers, it also gives pupils of all ages the chance to experience Saxony’s environment buses, the “Planaria”.
The LaNU operates the “NationalparkZentrum Sächsische Schweiz einfügen”, a visitor centre and meeting point in Bad Schandau.
