The Hobby caravan factory is the world’s largest producer of recreational vehicles. Since the foundation of the company, 500,000 caravans have came off the production line in Fockbek. Even as motorhomes producer, Hobby has taken a leading role in Europe for many years. With about 60 caravans and 25 motor-homes, Hobby offers a vast selection to its customers. The manufacturing of the caravans and motorhomes takes place in two ultra-modern production facilities – at the Hobby caravan factory and at the motorhomes factory built in 2003.
The company now looks back on a 40- year success story: In 1967 the trained naval architect Harald Striewski founded the Hobby caravan factory in Fockbek near Rendsburg. In a garage, together with a handful of employees, he fabricated the first of his self-designed caravans. Today the Hobby group, which includes since 1998 the Bavaria-based Fendt Caravan GmbH, reaches a market share of about 40 per cent in Germany and internationally of about 35 per cent in the caravan market segment. The north German industrial company places much value on the training of professionals in the commercial and trades sector. Currently 30 young people are completing a well substantiated vocational training as wood mechanics at the company-owned training workshop.
