The Augsburg regional freight handling centre, Güterverkehrszentrum (GVZ) Region Augsburg, is an attractive location for market-oriented transport services, which is positioning itself in the south of Germany.
One important location advantage is its central position, with direct access to main transport links such as the A8 motorway, the B2 and B17 trunk roads and the rail network of Deutsche Bahn and Augsburger Localbahn, a local railway line.
Therefore, GVZ Region Augsburg plays an important part as:
• a freight hub in the region of Swabia,
• a gateway in transalpine freight transport,
• an entrance to the corridor to southern and eastern Europe,
• an optimal hinterland location for seaport traffic.
A bimodal terminal for combined road and rail transport will be the core of the 112-hectare freight handling centre.
The GVZ development agency, GVZ-Entwicklungsmaßnahmen GmbH, jointly run by the cities of Augsburg, Gersthofen and Neusäß, is offering properties between 2,000 and 93,000 square metres (61 hectares altogether) on a nearby industrial estate, ready for building, to logistics companies and related businesses.
