As a materials research institute, the Fraunhofer ISC opens up potential for new products and focuses on non-metal inorganic materials such as high-performance ceramics, special glasses, glass ceramics, inorganic-organic hybrid polymers and nano composites (ORMOCER®s).
More than 3,500-square-metre lab and technical centre areas with industry-oriented equipment are available: a pilot plant for the synthesis of inorganic polymers, a pilot plant for the spinning of high-temperature ceramic fibres, process monitoring, 3d damage analysis with high resolution computer tomography for parts up to a dimension with a diameter of 700 millimeter. The accredited Centre of Applied Analytics offers more than 50 established measuring and analysis methods as well as artefact-depleted preparations and high resolving electron microscopy. Process and pilot plant engineering are further parts of the package as well as consulting, market analysis, or licensing. For decades, this widespread performance and the application orientation have made ISC a competent partner for small, middle and large-scale industry in the development of innovative materials for future products.
