Flughafen München GmbH (FMG) is the operating company of Munich Airport, which was established in 1992. Within just a few years since its opening, the airport’s outstanding growth performance was ranked amongst Europe’s top ten airports. The Free State of Bavaria, the Federal Republic of Germany and Munich are shareholders of FMG founded in 1949. The principle driving force behind the success of Munich Airport is the hub traffic of Lufthansa and its cooperation partners. Thanks to an influx of passengers amounting to just under 39 million in 2013, Munich currently ranks seventh amongst the airports with the highest passenger volumes in Europe. Flights departing from Munich Airport regularly travel to around 240 destinations in 68 countries.
