Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU) is the only full university and scientific centre of Schleswig-Holstein.More than 22,000 people study here, and about 2,000 people teach and do research. At the moment there are around 150 courses of study in eight faculties.
Following the maxim “university of joined scientific cultures”, proven top research is carried out by individual scientists, who have joined together to form interdisciplinary research communities. Whether in the fight against chronic disease or in the development of new resources, the Clusters of Excellence “Inflammation at Interfaces” and “The Future Ocean” are only two examples of practiced interdisciplinary work at the CAU.Special attention is paid to the Graduate School “Human Development in Landscapes”, in which scholars from nearly all scientific fields work together in an interdisciplinary way. Excellent networks join researchers to other German and international universities and partners such as the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences (IFM-GEOMAR). Research and teaching follow a high standard that stands comparison to the rest of the world.
