Our modern way of life would hardly be possible without products made by the chemical industry. The industry is an important pillar, particularly when it comes to climate protection. The broad range of products includes for example advanced medicines, environmentally compatible paint and varnish as well as high-performance materials for generating energy from wind and sun.
Over 80 per cent of the products are delivered to other industrial sectors for further processing. There they represent the beginning of virtually all value chains. This turns chemistry into a key industry and has turned many of our companies into leaders on the world market. Together they represent the industrial sector with the highest turnover between Westerwald, Palatinate and Rhine. Every third euro of the turnover in the manufacturing and processing sectors is generated by our industry.
The structure of our industrial sector is not only shaped by the well-known major companies BASF, Boehringer Ingelheim and Michelin, it is also shaped by many small and medium-sized companies. More than one-half of the companies employ less than 100 employees. We, the Chemical Associations of Rhineland-Palatinate, assist and accompany the companies on their successful path and represent their economic and social policy interests.
